Broken Promises-The Power of Words

February 26, 2011
Numbers 30:2 "A man who makes a pledge under oath must never break it. He must do exactly as he said he would do."

Have you ever had a verse pop out at you on a page where you know that was speaking directly to you? This one did that to me today, but it wasn't a "feel good" moment. It was a convicting "ouch" moment. I was convicted about the times I've gone back on my word to fast from the scale (except on Sundays or when I have to for some reason) until my husband is in my life. Regardless of how silly that fast may sound, I still made that commitment, and I regretfully must say I broke it knowingly more than once. God convicted me by making me realize that words are powerful, so I'd better be careful what promises I make. If I can't keep it, I'd better not say it; and if I do say it, I'd better live up to my word.

Dear Lord,
Thank You for convicting me with this verse so I can do better. Please forgive me for what I've done; taking my promises and breaking them. Help me do better, and thank You for Your forgiveness. In Jesus' Name.
Amen.
