Care For Others

March 7, 2011
Deuteronomy 15:7-8 "But if there are any poor Israelites in your towns when you arrive in the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tightfisted toward them. Instead, be generous and lend them whatever they need."

I want to share a story with you that was the best moment in my life. We were in Mojave and had just finished eating KFC. We had leftovers and had planned to just take them home. Then my parents saw a homeless man walking down the road. My mom asked if maybe he could use some food. After them thinking about it for a moment I said that it couldn't hurt. my dad pulls up to the man and we see someone who's had a rough life. Dad asked him if he'd like some food. This man went from having an expression of "Oh no! What are these people talking to me for?" to an expression I can't describe well with words. It was priceless! His eyes lit up with joy, and he smiled the most precious smile I've ever seen. That moment was the most incredible time in my life. Sadly, I've passed up a lot of chances like that-to make a difference in someone's life. We are told in Deuteronomy 15 to lend generously to the poor-not to be hard-hearted or tightfisted toward them. If you read verses 7-11 you'll see just how big of a deal giving to those in need really is. It's a huge deal because it says if they cry out to the Lord and we refuse to help, we will be considered guilty of sin (vs. 9), and in verse 11 it says that there will always be some int he land whoa re poor.

Dear Lord,
This is what you've laid on my heart today to write about. Help this not just be a devotional, but let it be a lifestyle. Open my eyes to people in need and show me how to help. Please, forgive me for the times I've refused to. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
