John 14:6, "Jesus told him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.'"
"What is the truth?"
I've been watching our world, and this is the one question I believe most people are now asking. People are looking for answers, and all they want to know is the truth. Is there really right and wrong, or is there just simply a gray area for everything in life where it may be right for so and so, but it's not right for me?
As I watch our nation fall away from God, my heart hurts. I'm watching Christians begin to be persecuted for Christ with the excuse that we are not being tolerant. We're being judgmental to have an opinion about anything, and for us to say that we find something to be wrong, means that we are somehow the crazy ones.
Tonight I was pondering the fact that what people are really searching for is truth. The problem they're finding is that they don't know where to find this truth. One person gives them this advice, while a different person says how they're right and the others are wrong. What is it then?
It's amazing to me how much we ask other people, "What do you think I should do?" We go searching for answers from people who can't even figure out their own lives. But we need answers, and we need help. Where do we turn?
How do I answer the question that seems to be plaguing our world?
Jesus stated it Himself in John 14:6, "I am the truth."
For everything I believe, there is one truth I stand by to back it up. It's not the opinions of others. It's not what is the popular vote today. The truth I stand on is Jesus and His Word. If something is not in line with Him and His Word, it's not truth.
Matthew 24:35 says, "Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear."
The answer to finding truth is to seek the Truth, and the Truth is Jesus Himself. John 8:32 says, "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
When we begin seeking Christ, we begin to finally know what the truth really is. We finally know what is right and what is wrong. No longer is there a gray area of questions about whether or not there really is a difference between right and wrong. A relationship with Jesus changes all of that.
In my walk with Christ, do I feel I have all the answers? No! There are plenty of things I just don't know and am not supposed to know right now. 1 Corinthians 13:12 says, "Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely."
When I know the Truth, I don't have to know all the answers. Why? Because I know the One Who knows. I know the truth, and He has set me free. He has set me free from a life of sin and bondage and confusion. He's given me hope that this world cannot take away from me. To have such hope that you know that even if your life is taken away from you here on earth, you have eternity with Christ to look forward to is the most freedom anyone can have!
Are you seeking truth?
Dear Heavenly Father,
I've found myself frustrated by the fact that our world has decided that there is no longer right and wrong. It hurts my heart to watch a nation that was founded on You turn our backs on You and try to kick You out. Lord, I truly believe people are looking for the truth right now. They're wanting to know what's real and what isn't. My prayer is they'll find that in You. Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. All we need is found in You, and You're longing for us to draw near and let You in. Please change hearts and lives to come to You. Do whatever it takes and lead this nation back to You. Thank You for being the Truth. In Jesus' Name.
Amen.
