Leviticus 20:26 "You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own."
God told the Israelites to be holy because He is holy. He set them apart as His own. To be holy is to be "set apart or sanctified." Insight (pg 162) Bible. Although we aren't Israelites, necessarily, if we are Christians we are set apart from being like the world. Instead we are to become more and more like Christ. Do we still mess up? Yes! But now when we mess up we hate our sin and repent. I love this verse because I can see how God has set me apart from the world and made me His own. I see a protective covering over me that I know He put there. I used to take this gift for granted. I even despised it at times, but looking back I don't understand how I could've been so selfish. By God setting us apart as His own we should no longer "blend in" with the world's standards and patterns. We should be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). By being set apart it doesn't make us more than the other people. It should make us kneel in service just as Jesus lived His life doing.
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for setting me apart as Your own, and thank You for protecting me like You do. Please, help me be holy as You are holy, and keep me from becoming proud in knowing I'm specially chosen by You; rather let that humble me and cause me to kneel in service. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.
