Numbers 22:18 "But Balaam responded to Balak's messengers, 'Even if Balak were to give me his palace filled with silver and gold, I would be powerless to do anything against the will of the Lord my God.'"
What a powerful verse! The message in this verse is incredible. In the world's eyes, Balak was a top dog. He was a king. To say to a king what Balaam said to him is like us going to the President saying, "I know what you told me to do, but I am powerless to do anything against the will of the Lord my God." When you think about it though, God is so much bigger than our bosses, managers, and even our President. I think we forget that too often. We need to do what Balaam did and realize that we are powerless to do anything against the will of our God! He gives us breath, and He can just as easily take it away. Praise Him that He is loving, just, and merciful, though, because He doesn't treat us as we deserve to be treated. We deserve death, and He died to give us life. The next time we are tempted to do something that goes against God just because someone above us tells us to, let's remember the One Who is over them.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for this reminder that you are bigger than even our leaders here on earth. Lord, although we are to respect our leaders and do what they tell us to do, help us if that request they make goes against You to do the right thing; the thing that will glorify You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
