Trials-Opportunities Not Problems

February 27, 2011
James 1:2 "Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy."

This morning I went into my mom's room crying because I've been fighting the stomach flu for five days, and I woke up with my nose giving me problems today. "You've got to be kidding me." is what my first thought was. Quite honestly I am not feeling horrible. I'm just sick of being sick. I was a little mad at God for still being sick. Totally unfair, I know! Anyway, finally i sat down to do my devotional. Not wanting to read in the Old Testament today, I decided to go to one of my favorite chapters to read. Guess what the first verses were on... Trials! James doesn't say to complain about them, though. He tells us to consider it an opportunity for great joy. As you read on it tells us to do that because it grows our endurance by testing our faith, leading us to a place where we are complete and perfect. A place where we are needing nothing. When I was laying in my parent's bed, God laid on my heart that if I never got sick, which I usually didn't until until this month, I couldn't understand what people who were sick were going through, but since I understand I'll now know ways that I can help. In the devotional that's in my Bible it talks about how, "...God intends these problems as opportunities for me to grow rather than dangers for me to fear..." My Daily Walk (pg 1583) Bible.

Dear lord,
Please forgive me for getting mad at You instead of being joyful about You growing my faith and endurance. Please help me see this trial as an opportunity instead of seeing it as a pain in the rear. Use it to further Your Kingdom. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
