God's Chosen One

March 23, 2011
Judges 14:3-4 "His father and mother objected. 'Isn't there even one woman in our tribe or among all the Israelites you could marry?' they asked. 'Why must you go to the pagan Philistines to find a wife?' But Samson told his father, 'Get her for me! She looks good to me.' His father and mother didn't realize the Lord was at work in this, creating an opportunity to work against the Philistines, who ruled over Israel at the time."

Samson was chosen by God before he was even born. God had a plan for his life. When Samson grew up, he desired to marry a woman who was not an Israelite, but rather was a Philistine. His parents objected to this idea, but Samson didn't listen. He married her anyway. Before the week of celebration was even over, his wife started nagging him. Finally he told her what she wanted to know. She went behind his back and told some people what he told her. Their marriage didn't last long, and both her and her father died shortly after. Samson then was with a prostitute, and he eventually married again to a woman who tricked him as well as his other wife had. When I see what Samson chose to do, I wonder what would've happened had Samson listened to his parent's advice. I wonder if he would've chosen better for who he married. God's hand was even in that decision, but God gives us freedom of choice. Our decisions will affect the outcome. We need to be careful to make our decisions wisely.

Dear Lord,
Like Samson, you set me apart for You too. You have Your hand in my life. I see it daily. Please help me choose the path that leads to life daily even if a different road looks appealing to my eye for a moment. Set my heart on You. Thank You for Your love and mercy. Fulfil Your purpose in my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
