Choices and Consequences

April 19, 2011
1 Kings 11:38-39 "If you listen to what I tell you and follow my ways and do whatever I consider to be right, and if you obey my decrees and commands, as my servant David did, then I will always be with you. I will establish an enduring dynasty for you as I did for David, and I will give Israel to you. Because of Solomon's sin I will punish the descendants of David-though not forever."

Solomon chose to worship[ more than just the Living God. He turned and worshiped pagan gods. Because of this sin, God was taking the kingdom away from him eventually and giving it to Jeroboam. Our choices affect us and others too. More than anything else, God wants us to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. If  we do that, we will reap blessings. If we don't, we will reap bad consequences. We need to follow God and love Him more than anything else.

Dear Lord,
Like Solomon, You've blessed me. You've given me so much! Like Solomon, though, I've worshiped other "gods" too. I've put other things before You, and I've tried to make other things fill the God shaped hole that belongs to You. Please forgive me for not loving You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and help me do better. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
